So what does a beekeeper have to do with a lifestyle blog???  I asked myself that same question when approached.  The more I thought about it the more I realized it really is a sweet pairing and I decided I would type something up to be posted!  Most would agree that lifestyle friendly couples strive for better communication and think of their partners wellbeing.  This little blog entry will be geared towards those goals and I promise I will keep it short!  If you have ever talked to a beekeeper, you know we can go on and on about all those females.

(A beehive in the summer has approximately 60,000 bees and is made up of approximately 85 to 90% females)

There is a great book out there called “The Five Love Languages.”  It breaks love into categories in which most of us show and like to receive love.  More importantly it helps to give insight into what our partners might want and need to feel loved.  Me, I show love through “acts of service” and my wife is “words of affirmation”.  We both need some quality time as well.  So what does that have to do with lifestyle fun and beekeeping?

After a long day I’ll help my sexy lady jump up on the kitchen counter and let her tell in great, great, detail the events of her day.  I throw words of affirmation into the conversation when I can to support her all as I prepare a drink.  She watches me knowing I’m doing it to show her love all the while we are just both enjoying being together.  The drink helps loosen the stress of the day and as most know helps the sexy times begin.  Making a drink helps with our love language needs and helps with those lifestyle friendly conversations.  Still wondering how the beekeeper part comes in?  (A male bee’s only purpose is to mate with virgin queen bees.  If successful, the drone dies in the mating processes.)

honey
In a bee’s life, it will only produce 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey

You don’t have to be a beekeeper to like honey.  Most people enjoy the taste of honey but don’t know what to do with it beyond putting it on biscuits or in their hot tea.  Those are both great ways to enjoy honey, but another is making a simple syrup.  Simple syrups from the store are made from white sugar or other sweeteners and are just sweet, there isn’t any flavor to them really.  Grab a local artisan honey and a new world will open.  If you have ever been to a wine, bourbon, or similar type tasting you learn that subtle changes in the production process creates unique flavors.  The same is true for honey.  Making a honey simple syrup will create a unique complexity that you and anyone you’re making a drink for will enjoy!

A simple recipe for honey simple syrup is:

1 part warm water to 2 parts honey.  It is just that easy!  Don’t boil your water and keep it in the fridge for a week or so after you make it.

Now go make a fun, unique drink and talk with your special someone!  Enjoy learning what makes each of you tick!
